The TV show "Pawn Stars" has gotten to be one of my favorites. The owners of the Las Vegas Pawn Shop that is featured on the show have a wonderful chemistry, and the program always has some unique items that seem to show up.
Last night, for example, a guy came in with a replica of the Lombardi Trophy that was given to everyone associated with the Saint Louis Rams Super Bowl victory over the Tennessee Titans in 1999. It was numbered three hundred something out of four hundred that were manufactured, and was made with a shiny silver metal, maybe chrome. He wanted at least $1000 for it, but Rick, the owner, wouldn't budge off of $250. They were unable to reach a compromise, so the trophy left with it's owner. The reason Rick gave for not purchasing the trophy was that there are so many Super Bowl replica trophies in production that it really wouldn't have any value to anyone other than a Saint Louis Rams fan. Now, if the replica had been awarded to say, Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, it would have been worth a bunch.
It got me thinking about replica trophies, especially the Lombardi Trophy. Unlike the Stanley Cup Trophy of which there is only one, there's a new Lombardi Trophy made by Tiffany's every year. The real Lombardi Trophy is made entirely of sterling silver, and depicts a regulation-size football in its kicking position on a tee. It's 22 inches tall, weighs 7 pounds and takes about four months and 72 man-hours to create. There are all types of replica Lombardi trophies made from just about every material imaginable...but there's just one $50,000 sterling silver Lombardi Trophy!
The largest replica of this iconic trophy has it's home in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers have won six Super Bowls. This is truly the home of giant replica trophies! There are six of these 26 foot tall replicas located in the Coca-Cola Great Hall at the home Steelers at Heinz Field. This hall occupies about 40,000 square feet on the East Side of Heinz Field, and is home to every form of Steeler interactive display imaginable.
So if Super Bowl replica trophies are your heart's desire, they are out there...from small acrylic ones to the giant size at Heinz Field! Of course, the ones in Pittsburgh aren't for sale, but there's a replica out there that's just your size and at the right price!
