The Beatles' favorite recording studio has been put up for sale.

The Abbey Road recording facilities provided the name for the band's 1969 album, and the iconic cover shot of the musicians crossing the street was snapped outside the building.

Other artists to have recorded there include Michael Jackson, Radiohead, U2, Green Day, Oasis and Pink Floyd - who worked on their classic 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon at the famed building.

The studios, owned by record label giant EMI, were installed in a London house, which was bought for $160,000 in 1920.

Bosses at EMI have now put the building up for sale. Although the asking price is not known, Britain's Financial Times reports the business is worth an estimated $20 million .
